What does this test measure?
Measures the total thyroxine (T4) in the blood, both protein-bound and free. T4 is the main hormone secreted by the thyroid gland (about 95%).
Why is it ordered?
Used together with TSH to assess thyroid function. Its values can be affected by changes in blood proteins (such as pregnancy or liver disease). Helps diagnose an underactive or overactive thyroid.
