What does this test measure?
Measures the total triiodothyronine (T3) in the blood, both bound and free. T3 is the active form of thyroid hormone, mostly converted from T4.
Why is it ordered?
Used to support the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism and assess its severity. T3 is often elevated in hyperthyroid conditions such as Graves' disease.
