What does this test measure?
Measures the level of testosterone in the blood — the main male hormone responsible for the development of male characteristics. It is also present in smaller amounts in women.
Why is it ordered?
Used to assess testicular function in men and diagnose causes of low libido, erectile dysfunction, and infertility. In women it helps evaluate conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome and excess hair growth.
