What does this test measure?
Measures the total level of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) in the blood — a protein produced by the prostate gland.
Why is it ordered?
Used to help detect prostate problems and to monitor prostate cancer after diagnosis and its response to treatment. A high PSA does not necessarily mean cancer, as it can rise with benign prostate enlargement and inflammation, so it is interpreted within the full clinical picture.
