What does this test measure?
Measures the level of Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) in the blood — a hormone secreted by the parathyroid glands that regulates calcium and phosphorus levels in the body.
Why is it ordered?
Used to help diagnose overactive or underactive parathyroid glands, find the cause of abnormal calcium levels, and monitor chronic kidney disease. It is usually interpreted together with a calcium test.
