What does this test measure?
Measures the level of pepsinogen in the blood — the precursor of the digestive enzyme pepsin, produced by the stomach lining cells, reflecting the state of the gastric mucosa.
Why is it ordered?
Used as a non-invasive test to help assess the health of the gastric mucosa, detect chronic atrophic gastritis, and identify people at higher risk of stomach problems. It is interpreted within the clinical picture and may require confirmation by endoscopy.
