What does this test measure?
Measures the level of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in the blood — a protein released by the heart when it is under stress or strain.
Why is it ordered?
Used mainly to help diagnose or rule out heart failure in patients with shortness of breath, and to monitor response to treatment. It does not replace a full cardiac assessment and is interpreted within the clinical picture.
