What does this test measure?
Measures the level of myoglobin in the blood — a protein found in heart and skeletal muscle that is released into the blood when these muscles are damaged.
Why is it ordered?
Used to help detect early injury to heart or skeletal muscle. It is not specific to the heart alone, so it is interpreted alongside more specific tests (such as troponin) and within the full clinical picture.
