What does this test measure?
Measures the level of insulin in the blood — the hormone produced by the pancreas to regulate the entry of sugar (glucose) into cells.
Why is it ordered?
Used to assess insulin resistance, help investigate causes of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and evaluate the function of the insulin-producing pancreatic cells. Often ordered together with a blood glucose test.
