What does this test measure?
Measures the level of gastrin-17 in the blood — a hormone secreted by the cells of the antrum (lower part) of the stomach, reflecting its function and the state of its mucosa.
Why is it ordered?
Used together with pepsinogen as a non-invasive test to help assess the state of the gastric mucosa and detect atrophic gastritis. It is interpreted within the clinical picture and may require confirmation by endoscopy.
