What does this test measure?
Measures only free triiodothyronine (T3) — the active fraction able to enter cells and affect metabolism.
Why is it ordered?
Helps assess the immediate activity of thyroid hormone. A high level indicates hyperthyroidism, a low level hypothyroidism. Used alongside TSH and Free T4.
