What does this test measure?
The MB isoenzyme of creatine kinase (CK-MB), one of the three CK isoenzymes (MM, MB, BB), relatively specific to cardiac muscle.
Why is it ordered?
After myocardial infarction CK-MB rises from the usual < 6% of total CK to 10–30%; diagnosis of myocardial damage combines the clinical picture, the magnitude of CK-MB elevation and its time course.
Normal range
Discrimination value ≈ 25 U/L, or > 6% of total CK
