— Test information
What does this test measure?
Measures the level of Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) in the blood — a protein that can rise in certain cancers, especially colorectal cancer.
Why is it ordered?
Used mainly to monitor a cancer's response to treatment and watch for recurrence, not for diagnosis alone. It can also rise in benign conditions (such as smoking and inflammation), so it is always interpreted within the full clinical picture.
