What does this test measure?
Precisely measures the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (Beta-hCG) in the blood — a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy, and also produced by certain tumors.
Why is it ordered?
Used to confirm pregnancy and monitor its early development (such as evaluating ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage). It is also used as a tumor marker in monitoring germ cell tumors and gestational trophoblastic disease.
