What does this test measure?
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), an enzyme present in all cells but most concentrated in liver, heart, kidney, skeletal muscle and erythrocytes.
Why is it ordered?
Total LDH is increased in liver disease, renal disease, myocardial infarction, many malignancies, muscular dystrophy and almost any cause of haemolysis.
Normal range
Adults (37 ºC): 207–414 U/L
