What does this test measure?
Acid phosphatase, an enzyme whose main tissue sources are the prostate, spleen, liver and kidney.
Why is it ordered?
Measured mainly to detect and monitor prostatic disease (hypertrophy, prostatitis, carcinoma); total acid phosphatase may also rise in haematological disorders, metastatic breast cancer, bone disease and liver disease.
