What does this test measure?
Immunoglobulin A (IgA), which makes up about 10–15% of serum immunoglobulin and occurs in monomeric and dimeric forms.
Why is it ordered?
IgA is decreased in inherited or acquired immunoglobulin deficiencies; it is increased in skin, lung, gut and renal infections and cirrhosis, and monoclonal IgA rises in multiple myeloma and other plasma-cell disorders.
Normal range
Adults: 70–400 mg/dL
