What does this test measure?
Creatine kinase (CK), an enzyme that supplies ATP to contracting muscle, originating mainly in skeletal and cardiac muscle.
Why is it ordered?
Serum CK is greatly elevated in skeletal muscle disease (muscular dystrophy, myositis, rhabdomyolysis, trauma), in central nervous system and thyroid disorders, and rises 3–6 hours after myocardial infarction.
