What does this test measure?

C-reactive protein (CRP), synthesized in the liver, one of the most sensitive acute-phase reactants to tissue damage or inflammation.

Why is it ordered?

CRP can rise dramatically within 24–48 hours after myocardial infarction, trauma, infection, inflammation, surgery or neoplasia; the elevation is nonspecific as it occurs in virtually any tissue-damaging disease.

Adults: up to 5 mg/L
